A chilling search is underway off the coast of New South Wales. A hang-glider has gone missing, sparking a race against time for emergency services. The incident occurred in the waters off the NSW Mid North Coast, with the alarm raised yesterday afternoon.
Emergency crews sprang into action, responding to the call near Elizabeth Beach, south of Forster. Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Courtney Greenslade reported that a volunteer crew was quickly assembled, and rescue vessel Forster 30 was deployed to begin the search. The vessel diligently searched from Seven Mile Beach to Elizabeth Beach late into the evening before being stood down at 8:30 PM.
This morning, the search efforts resumed with renewed vigor. Water police joined the volunteer crew and rescue vessel Forster 30 in the ongoing search. Inspector Greenslade detailed the search strategy: Forster 30 is conducting a parallel-line search, working in tandem with the water police, covering the area from Lindeman Cove in the north to Blueys Head in the south. Marine Rescue Forster Tuncurry's radio operators are providing crucial communication support.
But here's where the weather comes into play... While the current offshore conditions are favorable, the forecast predicts a change later today. The area is expected to experience 20-knot winds and a swell of 1.5 to 2.5 meters. This raises the stakes and underscores the urgency of the search.
